Surviving Quarantine
Times are tough right now. We’ve all been quarantined and sardined into our homes like the final person being crammed into a Chinese train, uncertainty radiating from his visage of confusion. It’s all very perplexing, and we’re all trying to deal with it in our own way.
People from all over the world have started to post videos taken in their homes, performing any kind of random act to keep themselves busy and entertained. From the dish-soap treadmill to the romantic duet, people are finding new waves of creativity. Maybe this is a positive byproduct of the Corona Virus?
Being homebound does have its perks. Yes, it can be quite the soporific experience, as we drink coffee after coffee, and eat meal after meal, but some of us are starting to enjoy the cozy, homecooked meals, the quizzes shared over WhatsApp, and the intimate nights in front of the TV, I know I am. My introverted side is settling and snuggling underneath the blanket of quarantine. It’s permitted to be an introvert right now. Stay home. Enjoy the alone time and use this unfortunate period to your advantage.
Amazon has very gracefully published a catalogue of its online audiobooks and you can get access for free. Check them out here. You’ll find children’s titles, but also some fairy tales and classic stories such as Hamlet, Les Miserables and Jane Eyre. So now is the perfect time to get into some good books, and you don’t even have to use your eyes. So prop up a pillow, get a cup of cocoa, plug in your headphones and enjoy some literary favorites in bed. Could learning get any cozier?
But you can focus on more than just English and stories. If you have a thirst for knowledge, you might want to check out these free online courses. Here you’ll find a wealth of content including psychology, guitar skills, English pronunciation, the science of exercise, animal behavior and more.
You can also find some career-based courses including career switching, branding, leadership, and personal development.
So, as you practice obedience, wandering around your home and twiddling your thumbs, don’t worry. We were not prepared for this infectious onslaught, but we sure as hell have an archive of online material, created by awesome people, originating from all four corners of the world (Does the world have corners? Well, who cares… It’s hibernating time).
Yes, we were not prepared, but when you look at everything we have put out into the world, and everything made available to us online, we are pretty well prepared for a lockdown. What are you doing to pass the time? Do you have any awesome links to share? Post them in the comments section below.
